A new name for the Neotropical genus Aniarella Enderlein (Diptera, Sciaridae) Rev. Bras. entomol.
Özdikmen,Hüseyin; Başar,Kadir.
A new name for the Neotropical genus Aniarella Enderlein (Diptera, Sciaridae). A junior homonym was detected among neotropical sciarid flies genera and the following replacement name is proposed: Novaniarella nom. nov. for Aniarella Enderlein, 1911 (nec Bolivar, 1906). Accordingly, new combinations are herein proposed for the species currently included in this genus: Novaniarella azteca (Lane, 1959) comb. nov., Novaniarella brevis (Rubsaamen, 1894) comb. nov. and Novaniarella pelluscens (Enderlein, 1911) comb. nov.

A new Neotropical species of spot-thoraxed Drosophila (Diptera, Drosophilidae) Rev. Bras. entomol.
Ratcov,Vilma; Vilela,Carlos R..
Drosophila pauliceia sp. nov., a spot-thoraxed species closely related to Drosophila boraceia Vilela & Val, 2004, is described from flies collected in an urban remnant of the montane Atlantic Forest located at the Cidade Universitária "Armando de Salles Oliveira", São Paulo city, state of São Paulo, Brazil. The two forest-dwelling species can be externally distinguished mainly by having a different pattern of thoracic spots. A new group of spotted flies (peruensis group) is proposed to include them, in addition to Drosophila peruensis Wheeler, 1959, from Urubamba River, Peru, and Drosophila atalaia Vilela & Sene, 1982, from Brazil and Argentina. To facilitate comparisons, illustrations of the male and female terminalia of the new species...

A new oligolectic bee species of the genus Rhophitulus Ducke (Hymenoptera, Andrenidae) from South Brazil Rev. Bras. entomol.
Ramos,Kelli dos Santos; Siriani-Oliveira,Samuel; Schlindwein,Clemens.
ABSTRACT The genus RhophitulusDucke, 1907 is a large and complex group of bees of the tribe Protandrenini comprising small, slender, mostly black ground-nesting species that are restricted to South America. We describe a new species of Rhophitulus from Parque Nacional São Joaquim, Urubici, state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Rophitulus ater sp. nov. is distinctive and easily distinguished from other species of the genus by a unique combination of morphological characters in both sexes, but especially by the following: dull black body, coarsely and densely punctate integument, basal area of metapostnotum depressed and areolate rugose, posterior margin of hind tibia and pygidial fimbria of female with blackish pilosity, and characters of the male genitalia with...

A new species and new records of minuta-group Gnamptogenys from Brazil (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) Rev. Bras. entomol.
Dias,Amanda M.; Lattke,John E..
ABSTRACT We report new records of Gnamptogenys caelata Kempf (1967) and Gnamptogenys minuta (Emery, 1896) from Brazil. We also describe Gnamptogenys piei n. sp. from Southeast Brazil. This distinctive new species is known only from a single worker found in leaf litter from montane forests of the Mantiqueira mountains in Itatiaia National Park, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil. The specimen was collected at 1991 m above sea level, an infrequent altitude for minuta-group ants, usually more common at lower altitudes. The new species is imaged, compared with other minuta-group species, and an updated identification key for all known species of the minuta-group is included.

A new species and new records of Oxysarcodexia Townsend (Diptera: Sarcophagidae) from Brazil Rev. Bras. entomol.
Carvalho-Filho,Fernando da Silva; Sousa,José Roberto Pereira de; Esposito,Maria Cristina.
Abstract Oxysarcodexia cocais sp. nov. from Brazil is described and illustrated based on male specimens collected in a babassu palm forest in the state of Maranhão. The remarkable elongated surstylus (as long as cercus) and U-shaped male sternite 5 distinguishes the new species from other species in the genus. In addition, Oxysarcodexia nitidaSoares & Mello-Patiu, 2010 is recorded for the first time from Brazil, and Oxysarcodexia adunca Lopes, 1975 is a new record from the Brazilian Amazon.

A new species and redescriptions of three species of Atractosomus Lacordaire from Brazil (Elateridae, Elaterinae) Rev. Bras. entomol.
Casari,Sônia A..
A new species, Atractosomus amazonicus sp. nov. is described and three species, A. robustus Candèze, 1859, A. carinatus Candèze, 1859 and A. conicicollis Candèze, 1859 are redescribed and illustrated. A comparison among these species and with the type-species, A. flavescens (Germar 1839) is presented. A.amazonicus sp. nov. and A. robustus belong to group of species with 3rd and 4th antennomeres equal in size and the other studied species, to group with 3rd antennomere smaller than 4th.

A new species of Actinote Hübner (Nymphalidae: Heliconiinae: Acraeini) from southeast Brazil Rev. Bras. entomol.
Freitas,André Victor Lucci; Francini,Ronaldo Bastos; Paluch,Márlon; Barbosa,Eduardo Proença.
Abstract The present paper describes a new species of Actinote (Nymphalidae, Heliconiinae, Acraeini) from southeastern Brazil, and describes the morphology of the adults and immature stages of this species. Actinote mantiqueira sp. nov. occurs in the Serra da Mantiqueira and Serra do Mar in the Atlantic Forest. Adults from this population are very similar to other species of the “orangish red mimicry complex”, including Actinote alalia (C. Felder & R. Felder, 1860), its sister species, restricted to the mountains of southern Brazil. Actinote mantiqueira sp. nov. and A. alalia are distinguishable by wing pattern, male genitalia and larval morphology, and have strongly allopatric distributions. A redescription of Actinote alalia is also provided.

A new species of Buenoa Kirkaldy (Hemiptera, Heteroptera, Notonectidae) from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Rev. Bras. entomol.
Barbosa,Julianna F.; Ribeiro,José Ricardo I.; Nessimian,Jorge L..
Members of Buenoa are restricted to the Western Hemisphere, with the greatest diversity of species in South America. There are about 50 described species and approximately 20 of them have been reported from Brazil. Buenoa pseudomutabilis Barbosa, Ribeiro and Nessimian, sp. nov. is described here from Maricá, Rio de Janeiro State. This species resembles B. mutabilis Truxal, 1953 because males have a stridulatory area on inner surface of forefemur, forefemur narrowed at apex, with length more than three times its width at apex, and rostral prong longer than third rostral segment. Males of B. pseudomutabilis sp. nov. can be readily recognized by the presence of 21 to 25 teeth in the stridulatory comb of foretibia, whereas in B. mutabilis the stridulatory comb...
